Accessibility Shouldn’t Stop at the Door

From the outside, everything can look perfect.
Clean buildings. Wide windows. Bright spaces.

Accessible… right?

Not always.

Because accessibility isn’t about how something looks
it’s about how it works for the people who need it.

A building can look modern, open, and “inclusive”…
and still be impossible to navigate.

No clear signage.
No step-free access.
Doors that are too heavy.
Layouts that don’t make sense.

And suddenly, that “accessible” space becomes another barrier.

This happens all the time.
People design for appearance — not experience.

And if you’re not disabled, you might never notice.

But for disabled people, it’s the difference between:
being included… or being left out.

Accessibility isn’t an extra feature.
It’s not a bonus add-on.
It’s not something to “consider later.”

It should be there from the start.

Because real accessibility doesn’t just get you through the door
it lets you actually exist, move, and function in the space.

So next time something looks accessible…
ask a better question:

Who is this actually working for?

If this resonated with you, share it with someone who needs to see it.
